Routemaster started from a personal frustration. I was trying to visit a family member, asked for directions, and still almost got down at the wrong bus stop because someone else told me something different. It reminded me how confusing public transport can be in Lagos, especially when you don’t take buses every day. That small moment sparked the idea for an app that gives clear, dependable directions without stress or guesswork.

Finding your way around with public transport in Lagos is stressful.
There’s no single place to check routes, prices change all the time, and people give different directions. One person tells you “drop at X”, another says “no, it’s Y”, and you’re just stuck hoping you don’t miss your stop. With rising transport costs and confusing routes, everyday movement becomes even harder.

People needed a simple app that tells them:

  • Where to go

  • Which bus to take

  • How much to pay

  • And when to stop

Without depending on guesswork or random advice.

My Process

My Process

My design process was simple and straight to the point:

  1. Understanding the problem:
I asked people how they moved around the city. Many said they avoid public transport because they don’t know the right bus or are scared of getting lost.

  2. Research:
I looked at how navigation and transport apps work, especially in cities with complex bus systems.

  3. User Personas:
I created user types like students, new residents, office workers, and travelers — people who rely on affordable transport and need clear steps.

  4. Information Architecture:
I structured the app around the core experience:
Enter location → Choose a route → Follow step-by-step instructions.

  5. Wireframes & UI:
I designed clean screens focusing on clarity; simple language, bold directions, and easy-to-spot options.

  6. Testing & Iteration:
I shared the designs with a few people and improved areas where content felt confusing or too detailed.

The Solution

The Solution

Routemaster is a public transport guide that gives users clear, step-by-step directions from one place to another. It shows:

  • The fastest route

  • The cheapest route

  • The most convenient route

  • Estimated transport prices

  • Where to enter and where to drop

No overthinking. No stress. No wrong directions.

The app also allows users to save favourite routes and update transport prices when they change.
